Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Wisconsin DHS, DPH seeks applicants for implementing CALM, brief counseling strategies designed to help clients at risk for suicide and their families reduce access to lethal means and increase safety. CALM is a supported strategy by the CDC’s CSP program as it promotes protective environments for people at risk of suicide and self-harm. The aim of this funding is to increase implementation, integration, and support sustainability of CALM practices in Wisconsin healthcare systems serving rural males ages 25 and older. Funding will go toward a rural-serving healthcare system with regional (multi-county) or statewide reach. The health system must be providing direct services in rural counties as designated by the WI Office of Rural Health map. Funds will be used to support staff training in CALM practices and support the implementation of CALM within multiple sites, in different counties in the selected agency’s healthcare system. Additionally, the selected organization is expected to integrate CALM practices into agency policy, practice, and procedure. Examples of successful integration could include, but are not limited to, embedding CALM into electronic medical record systems to ensure provider completion, incorporating into position descriptions for agency champions to oversee CALM long-term success and integrating CALM practices into agency policy. The awarded agency must also agree to use funds to participate in technical assistance calls, consultative calls, and a Community of Practice (CoP) provided by CALM America to support successful integration and implementation. Additionally, the awarded agency must agree to participate in advanced Train-the-Trainer workshops in future contract years should they be available. The awarded agency will also engage in a multi-sectoral partnership, led by Wisconsin DHS, designed to support comprehensive suicide prevention efforts throughout Wisconsin. Selected applicants will work closely with DHS staff and the contracted evaluation partner to ensure evaluation of implemented activities.
