Specifications include, but are not limited to: implement the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment public health model for children, adolescents, and/or adults in primary care and community health settings (e.g., health centers, hospital systems, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), preferred-provider organizations (PPOs) health plans, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), behavioral health centers, pediatric health care providers, children’s hospitals) and schools with a focus on screening for underage drinking, opioid use, and other substance use. This program is designed to expand and/or enhance the uptake of SBIRT into routine healthcare and other encounters with children, adolescents, and/or adults for a system-level approach to reducing alcohol and other drug (AOD) consumption and its negative health impacts. Even when client’s express readiness to consider needed SUD treatment, long wait times often mean that individuals seeking treatment from substance use disorder can wait up to six months or longer.
