Specifications include, but are not limited to: In December 2004, the U.S. Army entered into a 50-year ground lease for the former Chamberlin Hotel and the associated 4.97-acre land parcel with a private developer for the rehabilitation of the former hotel as a senior independent living facility. In 2005, the U.S. Army installation at Fort Monroe was designated for closure by the 2005 BRAC Commission. The Army installation at Fort Monroe was decommissioned on September 15, 2011. The property at Fort Monroe was subject to a reversionary deed from the Commonwealth of Virginia. In December 2021, the Army transferred the Chamberlin Hotel parcel to the Commonwealth of Virginia subject to the existing ground lease. The FMA, as the managing agent for the Commonwealth of Virginia, has begun discussions with the ground lessee to negotiate a new ground lease for the property. The FMA is seeking an appraisal of the land parcel for the purpose of negotiating ground lease rent for the land parcel. The land parcel is identified in Quitclaim Deed (Instrument # 210024505) included as Appendix A, and the City of Hampton records (RPC # 12008726).
