Martin County is seeking bids from licensed Contractors to provide all necessary labor and materials for ongoing vegetation management on approximately 35,000 acres of Environmentally Sensitive Lands. The area, target species, and treatment frequency will vary based on available budgets and prioritized needs. Martin County’s Public Works Department, Environmental Resource Division, oversees the management of several thousand acres of Environmentally Sensitive Lands spread across close to 40 properties throughout the County. These properties span from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Okeechobee and encompass a diverse range of habitats, including beach dune systems, hammocks, Pine Flatwoods, fresh and saltwater tidal swamps, marsh systems, and lakes. Various vegetative management techniques are utilized on these Environmentally Sensitive Lands to enhance ecological health and facilitate recreational access. These techniques include the removal of exotic and invasive vegetation, vegetation reduction through mastication or manual removal, fire fuel load reduction, and the maintenance of existing recreational trail systems. Funding for this contract may originate from state and/or federal grants, including those from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As such, the successful vendor is required to adhere to all applicable state and federal guidelines.
