The Executive Office of Veterans’ Services (EOVS) is pleased to announce the availability of approximately $1.5-2 million in Fiscal Year 2024 funding through the Veterans Community Initiative Grant (VCI). The VCI Grant is dedicated to supporting efforts highlighted in the Veterans Reintegration Advisory Committee (VRAC) Report entitled, “An examination of suicide among veterans and their reintegration into society.” Two VRAC recommendations that the VCI Grant aims to address are: Invest in established servicemember, veteran, and family (SMVF) peer services and expand access to both formal and informal peer support; and Establish a robust training curriculum for healthcare, behavioral health, and other direct-service providers focused on military cultural competence, with a focus on lethal means education. The VCI Grant will fund organizations that provide innovative and creative approaches for services to qualified veterans and their dependents residing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts focused on the VRAC recommendations listed above. Nonprofit organizations classified as 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19), a municipality, an educational institution, or a for-profit small business having the experience, ability, and capacity to launch an innovative program to serve veterans with the above VRAC recommendation are eligible to apply. Applications from city-wide or county-wide programs must specify their area of focus. Organizations receiving funding are expected to produce a report at the end of the calendar year detailing fund allocation and outcomes facilitated by grant funding.
