The Department has many manuals encompassing design process, administration and procedures requiring updating. The department has an existing geotechnical manual that was completed in 2008. This manual is available on the department website in pdf format and Microsoft word files can be made available. The manual needs to be updated for newer or innovative geotechnical engineering content, updated state of practice, as well as MDT procedures, organizational structure, administrative procedures, etc. Updates to the geotechnical manual will also need to consider the reorganization of the geotechnical bureau which now includes the pavement analyses group. Updates to the geotechnical manual will need to be harmonious with the pavement design manual. The existing geotechnical manual should be used as a starting point and each chapter will need to be reviewed and updated as appropriate. All chapters will need to be updated to some level of effort and the required effort for each chapter will differ based upon content and changes in both MDT and national practice since the time of the original manual development. An additional new chapter for geotechnical asset management will also need to be developed. Other new chapters may also be required.
