Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Be able to provide services including repairs on large-diameter pipes (6” and larger) in an expeditious manner to assist the City in valve replacements. 2. Large diameter pipes in the City’s water distribution system are made of pre-stressed concrete cylinder (PCCP), ductile iron, cast iron, asbestos cement, and some PVC. 3. Be able to follow the City of Wichita’s standard engineering processes including but not limited to following regulatory requirements set by KDHE and City of Wichita storm water pollution prevention as required, etc. 4. All repair parts and accessories needed to complete the replacements shall be provided by the City of Wichita. CONTRACTOR is required to pick up all the needed parts from the Water Distribution yard at 1825 S. McLean Blvd Wichita, KS 67213. 5. CONTRACTOR must be able to complete the valve repairs expeditiously without endangering the safety of the CONTRACTOR’s crews, City employees, and the public. 6. CONTRACTOR shall provide a list of names (with cell #) who can be contacted for communication purposes related to the jobs. City staff shall be making the calls during business hours. 7. Upon completion of all repairs and restoration work, CONTRACTOR is required to provide an itemized, detailed invoice for each repair and improvement project completed. The nvoice shall break down the labor costs by various trades and supervision. All equipment utilized on the project shall be itemized along with the associated costs. 8. City Water Distribution field crews shall operate the isolation valves to shut down the segment of water mainline which needs to be repaired. Upon completion of replacements, City crews will be responsible for operating the valves and fire hydrants to flush the repaired line segment with fresh water to remove all debris and sediment in the line before returning the repaired line to service. 9. City crews will be responsible for collecting all water samples for testing as required. 10. CONTRACTOR is required to call for utility locates for the valve replacement sites. 11. The CONTRACTOR is responsible for any damage caused to all other underground utilities throughout the valve replacement work. CONTRACTOR is responsible for coordination of repairs with the owner of the damaged utilities. CONTRACTOR shall maintain good accurate records of damage done to other utilities. Photographs, names of representatives of utilities that was damaged shall be kept for two years. CONTRACTOR shall provide to the City when requested all information kept on file in the event a damage claim is filed against the City by the utility company or other interested party. 12. Contractor is responsible for contacting the on-call traffic control company to set up temporary required signage and barricades, for traffic diversion, etc. Contractor will bear all costs for the initial setup and removal of the traffic control devices. 13. CONTRACTOR shall be required to set up their own traffic control devices before starting the actual excavation and replacement work. The entire set up shall comply with KDOT and MUTCD standards and shall protect the motoring public and citizens. CONTRACTOR shall maintain proper records for at least two years of the traffic control plan that pertains to the traffic set up of signs, barricades, cones, and other devices and apparatus. The records shall be requested by City of Wichita law office in the event of claim(s) for any accidents or injuries that occurred at the project site while the replacement was done. 14. Notification of customers impacted by water service outage will be done by the CONTRACTOR. 15. The CONTRACTOR is responsible for swabbing of the new pipe section to remove all debris from the pipeline before installing the pipe. City staff will operate the isolation valves to flush the line segment using fire hydrants before restoring water service for public use. 16. Upon completion of all required valve replacements, CONTRACTOR shall backfill in lifts and compact in accordance with City of Wichita standards. All materials for the select backfill and temporary patch shall be provided by the City. CONTRACTOR is responsible for providing their own materials needed for backfilling. 17. Restore the work site within 10 days of the City’s acceptance of the repair work, or within a time frame agreed upon with the Water Distribution Division Manager or his representative. Excess dirt and debris from the excavation site must be hauled away and properly disposed of by the CONTRACTOR. 18. The CONTRACTOR shall provide all required information for the City’s work order management system to the City representative. The CONTRACTOR should also be prepared to provide technical details, written descriptions, and other pertinent data as requested by the City for use in their asset management system or other such applications. 19. The CONTRACTOR will warranty all work to be free of defects for a period of one (1) year after completion. If a water leak, settling, or any other defects are discovered during the warranty period, the City will notify the CONTRACTOR. The CONTRACTOR is responsible for correcting the defect(s) within 24 hours. If the CONTRACTOR fails to respond within 24 hours, the City will perform the repairs and the CONTRACTOR will be billed for all the expenses incurred.
