Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Removal of the existing backflows. B. New backflows will be Febco 825Y. Size will be indicated in individual park instructions. C. Backflow replacements shall be installed where the existing backflow was located. D. Backflows need to be installed using type k copper and copper fittings. Each riser shall have copper unions. E. New flange curb stops will be installed at the meter with new copper piping and fittings. The installation of flange curb stops will be indicated on individual park instructions as not all parks will have work starting at the meter. F. The downstream side of the backflow installation shall be type k copper, fitting and union. The reconnection to the water line shall be level with the existing pipe. G. If the risers are made of galvanized pipe they shall be removed and replaced with type k copper pipe and fittings. H. All backflow installations shall have new concrete pads installed. If the existing pad is to be used it will be indicated on the individual park instructions. If a new pad is to be installed, then the old pad shall be removed before installation of the new pad. All pads shall have a thickness of 4’’ and be at least 2 feet longer and 12 inches wider than the cage or cages to be installed. (Example if cage is 10’’ wide x 22’’ long the pad shall be 30’’ wide by 46’’ long). Where a special size pad is to be installed it will be indicated on the individual park instructions. Where one pad is to be installed and two cages are to be used then the same 2’ longer and 12’’ wider than the cages will apply. I. Sleeving pipes need to be installed on each riser of the backflow to prevent concrete from touching the copper. J. Backflows shall be enclosed by using a Gurak Shack HGS series enclosure. If the cage is to be larger than 40’’ then the Guard Shack GS series (hinged) can be used. Any backflows over 2 1/2’’ size shall have a GS Clamshell cage. Cages shall be tan colored. K. Backflows 2’’ or below shall have a protective blanket installed. If backflow size is over 2’’ a freeze protection device will need installed on the #2 test port. L. Locks for the cages will be supplied by COT. M. All permits, traffic controls and utility location shall be done by the contractor. N. Any backflow that supplies water to a facility cannot be turned off between the hours of 7am to 5pm without prior arrangements being made to do work on these backflows when the facility is open. This will be indicated on individual park instructions.
