The consultant will be responsible for performing two monitoring actions defined in Section VII of the Fen Contingency Plan: Hydrology: A flow monitoring weir will be placed in one spring closest to the proposed bridge (approximately 60’) prior to construction to determine base flow. Four monitoring wells maintained by the DNR exist about 1000’ to the north of the proposed bridge. These wells will be equipped with water table data loggers. All wells will be monitored through the end of second year following construction. Both flow monitors and data loggers will be monitored remotely with a remote connection station. The flow monitors and data loggers will be removed during winter months to ensure the devices do not freeze. Hydrology monitoring reports will be provided yearly to the MN DNR by January 31st of the year following the monitoring. Vegetation: Monitoring of vegetation within the project area (approximately 1.2 acres) will take place in the year prior to construction to determine baseline conditions of invasive species cover and native vegetative cover. Monitoring will take place for two years following construction. Invasive species and the regeneration of native vegetation in any disturbed areas will be monitored. Photo points will be established prior to construction. Photos will be taken prior to construction, during construction, and during the two-year post construction monitoring period. Dakota County specifies the following equipment for the four DNR monitoring wells: • Greyline Instruments AVFM 6.1 Area Velocity Flow Meter • In-Situ HVFLO XCi Other equipment necessary for monitoring may only be procured with the consent of the project manager. Dakota County will take possession of all equipment at the conclusion of monitoring activity.
