Working with MCAG and the Working Group, the CONSULTANT will be involved with Tasks 1-5, as described below: Task 1: Collaboration and Community Engagement Engagement can be grouped into three major efforts – a Working Group, Stakeholder Inventory, and Community Outreach. Each of these efforts are described in more detail below. Working Group Identify a Working Group to assist MCAG and the CONSULTANT in development of the assessment. MCAG will invite Caltrans to participate, if desired. Representatives to participate in the Working Group will include members representing local, state, and federal governments, resource and land management agencies, offices of emergency services, public health organizations, academia, nonprofits, relevant special districts, and business community. The Working Group will meet on a bi-monthly basis to provide input on the overall project, including community and stakeholder engagement, vulnerability assessment scope, identification of assets to evaluate, identifying and prioritizing adaptation strategies, and reviewing draft reports. Stakeholder Inventory MCAG, in partnership with the Working Group, will develop an inventory of stakeholders who should be involved either through stakeholder interviews or during other key portions of the project or outreach. The Working Group will also help to identify populations who may be particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, in order to focus a portion of community engagement on those who may bear the brunt of the impacts of climate change. To facilitate long term engagement, MCAG will build a network of contacts to include in ongoing and cyclical efforts, such as the RTP/SCS outreach and development. MCAG will also gauge interest in the potential for a local or regional climate adaptation collaborative. Collaboratives have become more prevalent throughout the state and can be a valuable network for sharing knowledge and practices, building capacity, and leveraging cross-sector resources.
