This Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) is seeking contractors that are qualified to control non-native, invasive Phragmites on state lands and adjacent public and private lands along the Jordan River, UT. The goal of this work is to control Phragmites and promote the reestablishment of native plant communities. This work will require specialized equipment and knowledge to effectively control Phragmites via mechanical (i.e., mowing, trampling) and chemical (i.e., herbicide) methods. Phragmites grows prolifically along the Jordan River, with large populations existing on terraces, floodplains, wet meadows, river banks, and inside the river channel (in some places, spanning the entire channel). The steep banks of the Jordan River and the mosaic of land ownership within the Jordan River Corridor make access and implementation of Phragmites control treatments challenging. This Phragmites control work will consist of numerous ~1–100 acre projects each year. Although this scope of work is mostly for Phragmites control on the Jordan River, there may be additional opportunities to control Phragmites on the Bear River and Bear Lake in Utah, Utah Lake, and Great Salt Lake.
