1. The tanks should be inspected in accordance with AWWA D101-53 “Inspecting and Repairing Steel Water Tanks, Standpipes, Reservoirs and Elevated Tanks for Water Storage” as well as AWWA M42 Guidance Manual on Steel Tanks. 2. The desire is for the tanks to be drained for the inspection; however the use of a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) may be used in the instance that the City is not able to drain the tank at the time of inspection. The project bid should include three estimates. • Dry inspection including sedimentation removal and disinfection (the NE tank will not require sedimentation removal or disinfection). • ROV inspection. (Roosevelt and Woodlawn tanks only) • Dry inspection with a backup of a ROV inspection should the City have to fill the tank during the planned inspection time. (Roosevelt and Woodlawn tanks only) 3. All aspects of the tank condition and suitability for service are to be inspected. The inspection will address sanitary, safety, security, structural and coatings condition and the following items at a minimum: a. Metal loss due to corrosion such as pitting, layered corrosion or physical damage. Special attention should be paid to joints, seams, rivets and roof members. b. Cathodic protection systems. c. Foundation pads or ring walls and floor plate flange and grouting will be inspected for cracking and other deterioration. d. Condition and security of all vents, hatches and screens. 4. Upon completion of the inspection, a written report detailing deficiencies and recommendations for each tank shall be provided as well as digital pictures and videos of the inspections. 5. The Contractor shall prepare and submit any and all necessary permits required to inspect the tanks. The Contractor will be available during the permit review process to provide any additional clarification necessary to the permitting agencies. 6. The Contractor shall coordinate with Property Management regarding any cellular tower lease contracts and required communications between the cellular providers and 911 regarding any transmission equipment tied to the towers. Wichita State University must be involved in scheduling of work and potential service interruptions related to the project. 7. Upon completion of the Work, the Contractor shall remove all debris resulting from the inspection. The entire area in this contract shall be left in a clean and sightly condition and shall be returned to the same or better condition as it was before inspection. 8. If any emergency work is deemed necessary, the Contractor shall provide details and the proposed cost for the City’s approval before any repairs are made.
