Specifications include, but are not limited to: Hawaii Island: The vendor will collect seed from koa mother trees (25) in Kaʻu and Kona eco-region on private and public lands, and screen for disease resistance with the eventual goal of establishing a seed orchard for this region to ensure currently underrepresented geographic areas have resistant populations available and increase the genetic diversity within current resistant orchards for restoration and commercial forestry plantings. • DOFAW -Hawaii Island will provide logistical support on a time-available basis, such as monitoring mother trees, providing access to the site, accompanying vendor to site, or issuing permits as needed. • Geo-referenced field seed collection data by vendor will utilize the DOFAW Survey 123-koa for data recording and management. • At least twenty-five (25) new koa families from the seed collection on Hawaii island will be screened using established protocols for wilt resistance. • The vendor will begin planning discussion with DOFAW and neighboring land managers for locating another seed orchard site in the Kapapala region. • The vendor will conduct quarterly maintenance of the wilt-resistant seed orchard site in the Kapapala Canoe Log Forest. Maintenance will include the grass control in seed orchard understory. Fertilization with high P & K to encourage koa flowering and seed production.
