The STATE’s Driver and Traffic Safety Education Program (DTSEP) is responsible for providing professional development training for the STATE’s driver education instructors to meet the requirements of the Hawaii State Department of Transportation (DOT) for instructor renewal of the DOT certificate. The DTSEP seeks professional instructors for the training to all the STATE’s driver education instructors to ensure that the instructors are up-to-date with the curriculum content, informed about new engaging student activities and strategies for the classroom course, and provided with additional behind-the-wheel (BTW) coaching and experiential training hours to develop more knowledgeable instructors. All of these strategies will help to improve and enhance the quality of the STATE’s student driver education classroom and BTW courses.
