Specifications include, but are not limited to: o Mission: To serve as the comprehensive Orthopedic Center of Excellence for the region, improving human mobility and function through patient care, innovation, and education. o The Department of Orthopedic Surgery has a long history as a community surgeon integrated program for the training of the 25-resident orthopedic program. o In the late Fall of 2019, UofL Health formed after incorporating the Jewish health system with the University’s trauma hospital. o In 2020, the department incorporated a 9-resident podiatry program under the leadership of Dr. Tim Ford. o The Department has multiple fellowships: 1. Spine x2 with Norton 2. Adult Reconstruction x2 with UofL CMG 3. Trauma x3 with UofL (dissolving in 2025) 4. Podiatry x1 with UofL o In 2023 Dr. Nicholas Ahn was hired into UofL as the new orthopedic chair, which took the place of the long tenured Dr. Craig Roberts. o There is need to align the current teaching program with community providers to better serve our clinical and teaching missions across disciplines with the orthopedic program. o Significant changes are occurring within the department to improve surgical services to the region, research volume, and learner experience. This includes community trauma coverage and expansion to new markets (Carroll County and South). o University funds flow underwent an overhaul in 2023, which will impact resource allocation. o Work assignments of faculty will change in 2024 to better align with actual work.
