Specifications include, but are not limited to: 3.1 REMOVAL OF EXISTING FENCE: Remove all existing fence and place into a dumpster to be supplied by the Darien Fire Commission. The site must remain secure at all times. As such, only so much of the existing fence as will be replaced in a single work session shall be removed at a time. 3.2 FENCING Install a 7’ high galvanized chain-link fence with 1-foot-tall barbed wire on top (total height 8’). Total fence length is approximately 1000 LF and final location of the new fence will be at the direction of the Fire Commission or their Designee (see section 3.6). 2” x 2” mesh fencing, Gauge 9, Galvanized chain link 3.3 GATES Install one (1) double driveway gate, total 16’ wide, alongside Metro North property at the current location to allow MNR access to the railroad tracks. (see map) Provide Fence Gate Latch with hole for padlock for MNR access gate. Install gate posts as required. 3.4 EXCAVATION Mark all locations and contact “Call before you dig” for utility verification 1-800-922-4455. Drill holes of diameters required for installation of footings for fence posts. Post footings shall be on firm, undisturbed or compacted soil. Excavate holes to 6” below proposed post bottom. Excavate deeper, as required, for adequate support in soft and loose soils, and for posts with heavy loads. Proper construction industry standard specifications and best practices shall be used for any and all post installations. 3.5 SET POSTS Remove all loose, foreign materials from sides and bottoms of holes. Moisten soil prior to placing concrete. Center and align posts in holes 6” above bottom of excavation. Place concrete around posts in continuous pour, and vibrate or tamp for consolidation. Check each post for verticality and alignment, and hold in position during placement and curing operations. Towel finish tops of footings slope or dome to direct water away from posts. Keep exposed concrete moist for at least 7 days after placement for curing purposes. CONCRETE STRENGTH: Allow concrete to attain 75% of its minimum 28-day compressive strength, but in no case sooner than 7 days after placement, before the rails, tension wires or fabric is installed. Do not stretch and tension fabric wires until the concrete has attained its full design strength.
