Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. The PROVIDER shall administer the Summer A+ program in accordance with the most recent A+ Operation Manual, (https://tinyurl.com/yb766rv4). 1.1. The most recent revision of the A+ Operation Manual and any Summer A+ program directives from the Superintendent shall supersede any provision of the contract. 2. Provide after-school care on summer school days beginning after the summer school program ends at 12:00 noon until 5:30 p.m. If the school detains a child that is enrolled in the Summer A+ program, the school will provide a written notification to the PROVIDER. 3. Provide ongoing child intake services while also considering staff availability and facilities. The STATE may also refer interested child applicants. 3.1. The PROVIDER shall mitigate the use of waitlists by making every effort to accommodate eligible children. 3.2. The PROVIDER shall use the waitlist throughout the summer to inform an applicant when a space becomes available. 3.3. The PROVIDER shall continue to recruit staffing throughout the summer to minimize waitlist counts. 3.4 The PROVIDER shall communicate updates to the waitlist with District and School Leadership monthly. 4. Screen the child applicants on: 4.1. Enrollment eligibility - Non-latchkey, at-risk children will be enrolled only with the recommendation of the school principal and approval of the Summer A+ program District Coordinator; and 4.2. Qualification for subsidized monthly fees (with documentation attached to the approved application). 5. Provide program activities that include a balance among the following: 5.1. Free Play - Supervised free play. Children pursue play or leisure and recreational activities of their own choosing with appropriate supervision of at least one (1) staff person per twenty (20) children, is to be provided. 5.2. Enrichment - Activities to help children see and understand themselves and the world around them, and to become more responsive and sensitive to each other and to their natural and man-made environments. Activities such as art, crafts, and expressive arts are examples. 5.3. Coordination and Physical Development - Activities to supplement the efforts of the home and school in equipping children with the skills, attitudes and knowledge that will enable them to realize their full physical potential, enable them to participate in physical activities throughout life, and to improve their quality of life. Included may be activities in physical fitness, creative movement and team or group sports and games. 5.4. Character Development - The after-school experiences should present a range of character development themes to help children learn appropriate ways of behaving and interacting with others. 5.5. Homework Assistance and Academic Support - Children are supported with completing their homework by providing an environment of study with adults who assist in helping children stay on track with classroom studies. 5.6. Lunch and Snack - The Summer A+ program allows children to consume a lunch and snack provided by the parent with appropriate supervision of at least one (1) staff person per twenty (20) children, to be provided. Note: If the PROVIDER chooses to provide lunch and/or snacks, the lunch and/or snacks must meet the requirements set by the STATE Wellness Guidelines: http://www.hawaiipublicschools.org/TeachingAndLearning/HealthAndNu trition/WellnessGuidelines/Pages/home.aspx 5.7 Family Engagement – School site specific activities that offer families of children served in Summer A+ program opportunities to meaningfully participate and engage in the program activities with children and staff.
