Specifications include, but are not limited to: work with the MDE, Office of Special Education staff to prioritize, schedule, organize, and to provide technical assistance to teachers and administrators on evidence-based literacy strategies such as the Science of Reading; provide appropriate coaching and professional development services that address reading deficiencies in schools to ensure that there is cohesive, sustained, intensive and classroom-focused professional development and coaching that is rigorous, engaging, and aligned to the Mississippi College and Career-Readiness Standards; develop a non-threatening, open, professional, and relationships with district-level school personnel, school-based literacy coaches, principals, and teachers; and effectively identify the literacy and instructional needs of assigned coaches, schools, and teachers to prioritize, schedule, organize, and provide technical assistance to teachers to increase grade-level reading outcomes for students by the end of 8th grade; assist teachers with the implementation of new and innovative resources to improve literacy instruction for students with disabilities grades 4-8; Lead assigned coaches in the prescribed work of the SSIP under the leadership of the State SSIP Coordinator(s), extensive travel throughout the State; and uphold the confidentiality of all students, school, district, and State-level data.
