Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Town is concerned about the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists on the Charlestown Beach Road. This road receives a substantial amount of traffic for access to the Town of Charlestown Beach and the State DEM Breachway Beach and RV Campground, as well as for the residences and rental properties accessed by that road. In addition, there are three boat launches (Town, State and private) that are accessed from the Charlestown Beach Road. There is not enough room in the shoulder for pedestrians, strollers, carts, bicycles, etc. (Vulnerable Road Users) to safely use the road. The road lane widths have already been reduced to the minimum to accommodate a larger shoulder width, but the shoulder width is still very small. The Town wishes to investigate widening the shoulder pavement to provide more room for vulnerable road users to safely use the road.
