Specifications include, but are not limited to: Reconstruct Whitney Avenue from Trumbull Street to Cliff Street at the town line with Hamden. In addition to pavement rehabilitation, the corridor is being redesigned to improve functionality and safety for all road users. A civil design has been developed based on extensive public feedback. This design includes a road diet, curb replacement and reduction in road width, traffic calming measures, a raised two-way protected cycletrack and raised bike lanes, and sidewalk replacement and curb extensions. To accommodate these roadway modifications, the traffic signals must be adjusted to align with the new lane arrangement, include pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, conform to ADA and PROWAG requirements, and be retimed and coordinated, including potential conversion of exclusive pedestrian crossing phases to concurrent + LPI. Due to the old age of the existing traffic signal equipment, the signalized intersections within the project limits are proposed to be fully removed and replaced.
