Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Minnesota Department of Commerce (“Department”) seeks proposals from qualified schools throughout Minnesota for the Solar for Schools Grant Program. The program, created by the State Legislature (Minn. Stat. § 216C.375), is designed to provide grants to stimulate the installation of solar energy systems (“System”) while using the opportunity to integrate renewable energy use into school curriculum. K-12 public schools, as well as state colleges and universities, are eligible for funding based on financial need.a During the 2023 legislative session, the legislature moved the Xcel solar for schools program to be part of the Departments program. Beginning in January 2024, applications will be accepted for schools both inside and outside of Xcel Service territory.
