Specifications include, but are not limited to: SWC holds “Eye Clinics” for clients/patients six (6) times per year. Due to clients having developmental disabilities (DD), a conventional exam with an eye chart is not conducted. The Optometrist who will conduct these clinics would bring their own ophthalmoscope for use during the clinic. Further, since our have DD, both a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) are present to assist when the client/patient is examined. Prior to scheduled exams, the RN will dilate the client/patient’s eyes. Clinics are approximately three (3) hour duration and approximately 20 client/patients are seen during clinics. SWC is willing to work with Optometrist once contract begins on flexibility. Clinics are scheduled to best accommodate the Optometrist’s availability. Optometrist will: During exams will reach for refraction errors. Identity and follow any cataracts and/or their development. Write prescription for eyeglasses, which are purchased by SWC from the State contracted vendor established for this purpose. Refer clients to an Ophthalmologist when further treatment is needed.
