Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Program’s goals are to accomplish the following objectives by purchasing new equipment, renovation of equipment, or replacement of equipment for school kitchens: 1. Equipment that improves the safety and quality of food served in the school meal programs (e.g., cold/hot holding equipment, refrigeration, milk coolers, freezers, blast chillers, etc.). Standalone equipment ONLY; NO countertop equipment can be purchased with this grant funding. 2. Equipment that improves the overall energy efficiency of the school nutrition operations (e.g., purchase of an energy-efficient walk-in freezer or cooler replacing an outdated, energy-demanding freezer or cooler). 3. Equipment that allows Subgrantees to support expanded participation in a school meal program (e.g., equipment for serving meals in a non-traditional setting or to better utilize cafeteria space).
