Specifications include, but are not limited to: Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands, is seeking a vendor to provide mechanical thinning of live and dead Conifer/Aspen and Oak stands. The project is 144 acres in Kane County. The intent of treatment for this area would be an understory clean up reducing the current fuel load, focusing on smaller diameter trees (understory vegetation) and non-merchantable timber. A large portion of this area has been harvested previously. The focus of the project is to reduce fuel loading, not a harvest. Project area is approximately 144.54 acres, within this treatment area there are slopes too steep to treat mechanically and will not be treated as part of this project. The acres we are able to treat will depend largely on the bid prices and treatable slope acres. Treatable slope acres will be governed by Utah’s Forest Water Quality Guidelines. Minimum treatment acres within the project area will be outlined by FFSL before work begins. Unit 1 (Project Area 131.69Acres, Priority Acres 50.87) • “Not to cut trees” are live Aspen, Ponderosa Pine, Limber Pine, White Fir 12” DBH or greater, Douglas Fir and Spruce 8” DBH or greater. All other trees will be cut/skidded and piled (decked in landings). • Tree length skidding is expected. • All standing dead and down trees will be cut/skid/stacked in slash decks. With the exception to downed trees decomposing into the ground. • Damaged or unhealthy “not to cut trees” will be cut/skid/stacked in slash decks for example broken tops, snow damaged, skidder barked, mistletoe infested, and or twin topped trees. • Damaged trees are any trees with over one third of the circumference bark removed on any segment of the bole or one third of the crown removed or damaged. • Use of “rub” trees to protect leave trees while skidding is required while tree length skidding. These designated trees will be harvested at the end of skidding operations. • All stumps will be 10” or less measured on uphill side. • All whips will be cut or removed. • Slash decks will be a minimum of ten feet tall and constructed in a way suitable for burning. • Slash decks will be built tightly to facilitate burning. • Slash decks must be free of any soil and trash. • Slash decks will be twice as high as wide. • Slash decks will not exceed 45 feet in length. • All slash decks must be at least 25 feet away from any residual trees measured from drip line to burn pile. • All existing and current activity slash 4 inches and greater will be included in slash decks. • Total treatment area may be utilized for slash decks. • Natural clearings will be utilized for slash decks. • Slash decks will be centered in clearings. • All berms created by the contractor’s equipment will be reclaimed.
