More than 95% of the existing campus distribution network features this style of switch. UofU FM keeps spare parts for this style of switch depending on varying power needs across campus. UofU FM electricians are trained and capable of repairing and/or modifying this style of switch. Repair and modification are not possible with different manufacturers’ equipment. Purchasing and installing this type of switch enables UofU FM to repair a single section of a switchgear rather than replace an entire $100k switchgear assembly. It also enables UofU FM to reduce the amount of emergency spare switchgear assemblies the are kept in storage. Another benefit of the G&W flex bus switchgear is the customer-configurable modularity. This request is for a three-position switchgear, but parts of this switch (or other flex bus switches) could be used in other two-position, four-position, five-position, and six-position switchgear configurations.
