Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Under the direction of the UNM Chief Government Relations Officer, represent the University during regular and special sessions of the New Mexico Legislature, and at interim legislative committee meetings, hearings and other related activities as necessary during the term of the contract and to serve as the University liaison with members of the legislature during and between legislative sessions. 2. Advise and assist in the development and implementation of the University’s legislative strategy throughout the term of the contract including preparation for legislative sessions, activity during legislative sessions, involvement with interim committees and legislative staffs, coordination of legislative relations and other universities and ongoing interaction with legislators on matters of concern to the University. 3. Maintain regular, frequent contact with UNM in order to exchange information and to represent the positions of the University on issues and legislation before the legislature. 4. Initiate and assist in the development of strong relationships and outreach opportunities between UNM leaders and NM elected and appointed government officials. 5. Work closely with University officials and, as appropriate, with representatives of student, faculty, staff, and alumni to insure appropriate individuals are effectively utilized to present the University’s positions to individual legislators and legislative committees. 6. Participate in coordinated legislative relation efforts with other higher education and healthcare associations. 7. Work with elected and appointed local and state government leaders, agencies, committees and others; on issues of importance to the University of New Mexico. Coordinate the development of strong relationships between UNM and state agency leaders and staff. 8. Provide regular and frequent communication to UNM’s Chief Government Relations Officer on issues and legislative relation activities. 9. Advise and report on issues that may be of interest and importance to UNM.
