Specifications include, but are not limited to: The School Board of Martin County, Florida is seeking bids from qualified firms to provide a driver education program which consists of two components: instructional and behind the wheel services to approximately 300 District and Charter high school students. All work shall include instructors, supervisors, instructional materials, vehicles, travel, and fuel in accordance with Florida Department of Education Driver Education/Traffic Safety Classroom course number 1900300 and Driver Education/Traffic SafetyClassroom and Laboratory/Behind the Wheel course number 1900310. All instruction will be scheduled after normal school hours. Behind the wheel training may be scheduled from 8AM to 4PM on Saturdays. There will be no classroom access on Saturdays. Classroom course work may be facilitated on District property or at the awarded Contractors facility. All services must be rendered in Martin County. Classroom instruction can also be replaced by a certified online program with District approval. The District program shall receive grant funding from the Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act. This grant provides high school students with a six-hour on-the-road component of the Driver Education Program. WORK OBJECTIVES: The objective is to provide students with knowledge and skills to become safe drivers. Students will successfully complete the course and qualify for a Florida driver’s license. A. Driver Education/Traffic Safety Classroom# 1900300 1. This classroom course shall introduce students to Florida driving laws/rules of the road and safe driving behavior. It will also provide an in-depth study of the contributing factors to vehicle crashes and their solutions. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following: Meaning and responsibilities of a Driver License Laws that govern the operation of a motor vehicle Knowledge of Florida’s Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws Vehicle control and traffic procedures Knowledge of sharing the road with other types of vehicles and vulnerable road users Defensive driving strategies Physical and mental factors that affect driving ability.
