Specifications include, but are not limited to: 9.1 The contractor shall follow procedures for determining corner locations as laid out by the United States and the State of Wisconsin, and all other rules and regulations pertaining to the retracement of original government surveys. 9.2 All fieldwork shall be based upon the assembly of all authoritative information from Portage County or adjacent counties’ records such as title documents, private and public survey records, existing monumentation, testimonial evidence and occupation evidence that may be useful in determining the actual location of the PLSS corners. Contractor shall be responsible for all necessary research. 9.3 PLSS corners called for in Exhibit “A” are to be field traversed to and/or receiver occupied, with accuracy meeting or exceeding terms covered in this contract. 9.4 Lost or obliterated Government corners (i.e.: corners which cannot be reset from existing corner tie sheets) pertaining to this contract will not be part of this contract. Corner request forms are to be filed with the County Surveyor within two (2) weeks of field verification that a corner is lost. County Surveyor will field verify lost or obliterated corners. 9.5 This contract for PLSS corner maintenance and perpetuation of section corner and quarter corner locations identified as part of the county wide maintenance program. Each corner listed in Exhibit “A” shall have a monument, cast iron, stone, or equivalent and four witness ties, except as noted on the Exhibits. New witness ties shall be 1” x 30” rebar. Existing corner monuments that are accepted may be left in place if the existing monument is durable and metal. Pk-nails, survey nails/spikes, cotton gin spikes, etc., are not acceptable monuments. Information must be provided from the accepted monument shown on the tie sheet of record, cast iron monument/stone. Asphalt surfaces must be patched and a Berntsen Nail, SNM1 or equivalent, must be set above the accepted monument on top of the asphalt surface and flush with the surface. Stone monuments found and accepted must have a metal monument placed beside or over the top of the stone if practical. All witness ties must be set flush with the ground. Existing ties may be left in place if they are situated in a safe location and in good condition. Existing ties that are accepted should be adjusted to be flush with the ground. Power and telephone poles are not to be used and are unacceptable.
