Specifications include, but are not limited to: Work shall consist of removing the bridge expansion joints on the Douglas Street Bridge and the Maple/Lewis Street Bridge. Then replaced with a membrane sealant with bonding agent and must conform to the standards and specifications of KDOT’s 2015 specifications, section 1509. The existing expansion device is a “Strip Seal Assembly” which measures 60.2 linear feet. The membrane sealant with bonding adhesive shall be 60.2 linear feet as well. Both Expansion joints on both bridges are to be replaced. The bid item “Expansion Device” is 60.2 linear feet with the total expansion joints replaced is 240.8 linear feet. All labor and materials are paid under the bid item “Expansion Device”. Each bridge will require closures however only one bridge will be allowed to be closed at one time. Alternative #1 – In lieu of high strength concrete an alternate to utilize elastomeric concrete can be bid. The elastomeric concrete material must meet Section 718 Elastomeric Concrete and Materials Division 1500 of the 2015 KDOT’s Standard Specifications.
