Specifications include, but are not limited to: Preparation The Contractor is to perform all surface preparation recommended by the paint manufacturer for the paint product and substrate involved. Work is to include: cleaning, removal of unsound existing paint by scraping or sanding, repairing minor damage to walls, spackling, feathering and sanding, and spot priming of patches and bare substrate. Prime all new work and previously unpainted items. In cases where a light color is to be painted over a dark color, or a graffiti mark, etc. that cannot be removed effectively by normal cleaning methods, the affected area shall be prime coated to ensure that the color or marking does not show through the final coating. The prime coat shall be tinted to match the final coat color. The paint schedule will refer to new work and previously unpainted items. Previously painted surfaces require two finish coats or more, as required for complete coverage, unless otherwise noted. Material The following paint schedule specifies paint products for this project. If the specified paint product is inappropriate for a specific condition, the paint contractor is to choose a comparable high-quality product, subject to the approval of the University Project Manager. Plaster, Drywall, Homasote, Previously-Painted Masonry, Doors: • Primer: Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer. Minimum dry film (MDF) thickness 1.3 mil. Prime new work; spot-prime previously-painted surfaces where patched or as required. • Finish: Two coats (unless otherwise noted) Sherwin Williams ScuffTuff Waterbase Enamel Eggshell finished 1.6 mil per coat. Color: SW6232 Misty Woodwork and Trim (Painted Finish): • Primer: Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer. Minimum dry film (MDF) thickness 1.3 mil. Prime new work; spot-prime previously-painted surfaces where patched or as required. MDF 1.6 mil. • Finish: Two coats (unless otherwise noted) Sherwin Williams ScuffTuff Waterbase Enamel Semi-gloss finished 1.6 mil per coat. Color: SW6866 Heartthrob Application and Cleanup All work to be in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and guidelines for the Scuff Tuff and Extreme Bond products. The Contractor shall be responsible to protect adjacent areas from paint dripping during work. The Contractor is responsible to remove immediately any paint spilled onto floors or adjacent unpainted areas; to remove paint from all glass, door hardware, etc.; and to clean windows and skylights (inside) and door glass (both sides) at the completion of work. The Contractor shall avoid painting existing unpainted metal items of brass, chrome, aluminum, or anodized finish and shall protect these from paint splatters and clean all paint residue if spillage occurs. The Contractor shall re-paint previously painted items to match the new color scheme. All exposed pipes and conduits shall be painted to match adjacent surfaces unless otherwise noted.
