Specifications include, but are not limited to: The project scope for Phase I is to design a community (i.e., district or networked) geothermal heat pump system with vertical boreholes that satisfies at least 50% of the cooling and heating requirements for an affordable housing multi-residential multi-building campus in Wallingford, CT. The site has 38 dispersed buildings with 132 units, and sufficient green space for drilling borewells. Currently, the site uses 132 natural gas boilers to heat the buildings. Window AC units are currently employed for cooling. The Project Team proposed to design and install a geothermal district system that would provide at least 50% of the community (19 buildings and 72 units) heating and cooling. The DOE budget period for Phase I of the grant is from approximately October 2023 to November 2024). The Project Team plans to apply for the competitive Phase II of the grant which, if awarded, would fund the creation of final construction-ready design and installation of the geothermal system. Other core components of service include: o Working with UConn on site visits o Seeking input from project team on design alternatives, preliminary designs, and final designs o Supporting UConn with ground thermal conductivity testing o Helping draft a procurement scope of work for Phase II o Participating in bi-weekly project team meetings o Working with NEEP and WHA on communication and outreach to tenants o Working with WHA to determine the preferred procurement process for engineering, construction, maintenance, and any other services required for the project o Working with UConn and WHA to coordinate property assessments for additional clean energy technology (solar, battery, EV charging, etc.) o Participating in the Project Team’s geothermal workforce needs assessment study (e.g. filling out a survey or participating in an interview with NEEP) o Participating in Technical Advisory Committee meetings as needed o Assisting with answering questions from DOE and drafting components of the Phase II application to DOE o Reviewing additional project documents as requested o Supporting the development of a case study o Submitting monthly progress reports to DEEP o Create publicly assessable diagrams, images, and/or PowerPoints to assist with communication and outreach to various stakeholders and interested groups o Give and participate in presentations to various groups (tenants, Advisory Committee, DOE, etc.) as needed o Assist with writing the RFP for the Phase II engineering/construction firm
