Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. The scale shall be portable and not require any foundation work for operation. B. The scale shall be manufactured by a domestic manufacturer using domestic parts. C. The specified scale shall be independently used as a separate weighing device or a weighing device that can sum up a series of axle weights. D. A total of two axle load scales will be required to accept the foot print of a trailer (trailer axles and outrigging stands for trailers varying from 35 feet to 40 feet). E. The weight of each platform shall not exceed 5000 pounds (to ensure easy removal/portability) but, not be less than 2500 pounds for each platform (assuring quality construction and steel structure design). F. Specified scales shall have a maximum height of 6 inches. G. Each axle scale and approved load cell will be required to be NTEP approved (legal for trade). H. Each individual platform will have a Dual Tandem Axle Capacity (DTAC) of 60,000 pounds. In addition, each scale shall be designed to produce a minimum deflection at its rated 60,000 pound Dual Tandem Axle Capacity (DTAC). MANUFACTURERS: A. Fairbanks Scales, Inc. Kansas City, MO. B. Rice Lake Weighing Systems Inc. C. Or equal. MATERIALS: PLATFORMS/LOAD CELLS/RAMPS/JUNCTION BOXES A. Portable axle load scale shall be constructed in a sub frame fabricated with USA extruded structural steel. B. Scale shall be equipped with load cells constructed of stainless steel that are hermetically sealed. Load cells shall be factory installed to ensure proper alignment. C. The front platform shall incorporate a set (2) of ramps (10’ X 30”) for easy on and off truck travel. Rear platform to have a forward ramp and a rear bump ramp and positive stop wall the width of the scale (10’X 3’) and be painted safety yellow epoxy for rust protection. D. Specified scales shall be configured in a 10 foot by 10 foot footprint with a maximum height of 6 inches for each scale. E. The 10’X10’X6” separate platform shall have a full scale capacity of 60,000 X 10 pounds as an independent unit (or 120,000 X 10 pounds) as a combined unit. F. The deck plate thickness shall be no less than 3/8” thick. G. Each 10’ X 10’ X 6” platform shall be cleaned to an SSPC-SP6 finish prior to cleaning. The Platform shall have a minimum paint thickness of 3 mils of a 14-R-862 Red Epoxy Ester Primer and a minimum of 3 mils of a 12-G-428 Red Epoxy modified enamel. The total dry mil thickness should equate to 6 mils DFT (3 mils red primer, 3 mils red finish coat). Special Hempadur paint shall be used H. The load cells shall be of stainless steel construction. The load cells shall be 50,000 pound capacity rocker column cells designed for travel 360 degrees around. The load cell shall have a resistance of 1000 ohm’s, with an output of 2.00mv/v. I. The load cell cabling shall be protected with a stainless steel sheathing. J. Junction boxes (boards) will be wall mounted and will be housed in a type 304 Stainless steel NEMA 4 rated enclosure.
