Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1) Lock out/tag out of the engine generator set’s electrical and control circuits. Lock out and tag out of the engine’s gas and coolant valving and piping. Heat recovery system for other engine and boiler must remain operational. 2) Any parts removed will be stored as necessary by Contractor. Inspect for damage and notify the City of any necessary repairs of removed parts. 3) Work is intended to be completed on site and in place. If desired the Contractor may remove the engine from the site but no additional funds will be made available to take unit off site. 4) A list of parts already procured by the City is located at the end of this document as Attachment A. One water pump and four heads are to be returned to City for core exchange refund. 5) All parts provided by the Contractor shall be Caterpillar furnished parts or from alternate manufacturers approved by Caterpillar. Third party domestic and offshore sources for parts on not acceptable and will not be approved. a) Disassemble the engine. Clean the block, head, and all components. Clean all water and oil passages. If block is cracked, replacement is outside the scope of this bid. b) Inspect the crank shaft. Advise if the crankshaft journals require grinding. Minor rehabilitation of the crankshaft shall be included in the scope of work provided under this contract. If a new crankshaft is required, it will be considered outside the scope of this bid. Install City provided main bearings and connecting rod bearings. c) The Contractor will furnish and install new Cylinder Kits, including, but not limited to, pistons, rings, and connecting rods. Prepare and clean the block to accept new liner and o-rings. Contractor to provide new liners and accessories. d) Install new oil pump. Clean and inspect piston cooler nozzles. Advise City on current state of the oil pump and whether it will need to be replaced.
