Specifications include, but are not limited to:update the West Side Historic District Nomination form for the National Register of Historic Places. This will be achieved by extending the period of significance by twenty years and working actively with the community to identify places of importance to the African-American community that have not been mentioned in the nomination. The following documents are to be updated, the application form, history section, explanation for specific buildings and sites of significance, and photographic documentation, and a list of sites and buildings to be surveyed. The selected Proposer is expected to work with the Monroe County History Center (hereinafter the “MCHC”) and the City of Bloomington to coordinate archival work, the collection of oral histories as needed, and perform site documentation. ; In addition, the selected Proposer shall redesign and expand the existing African American walking tour in order to include additional information on sites and buildings to be determined based on a combination of archival and research within the local community. The new template can vary from the existing one but must be vetted by both HAND and the DHPA in order to ensure consistency. The resulting product must be both printable and be uploaded to the City of Bloomington webpage. Research from the Historic District application update can and should be incorporated. However, additional research may be required in order to include significant sites relevant to Bloomington’s African American history that are located outside of the Historic District. Any physical printing in larger batches of the end product will be handled by HAND with DHPA oversight.; Finally, the selected proposer is to work closely with the MCHC and HAND in order to curate a temporary exhibit showcasing the findings of the aforementioned research and deliverables at the MCHC. The exhibit must be up during May 2025 for May Historic Preservation Month but may be opened one or two months earlier in coordination with the MCHC. The selected Proposer will work with the MCHC to determine the length of the exhibit, space to be used, types of media, affixing technology, interpretive methodology, and any events (ie opening, talks, and/or closing ceremonies).
