Specifications include, but are not limited to: Installation of a 6” water main with fire hydrants on E Magee Street from Briggs Street to Lee Road to replace an existing 2” main. The length of the main will be approximately 1500 ft along Magee Street, it will be tapped into existing 8” C900 PVC water mains at the intersections of Briggs Street and Magee Street. The new main will terminate at an auto flush device in front of 617 Magee Street. The new main will be constructed of C900 PVC pipe with restrained joints (Certa-Lok, Diamond-Lok, or equivalent) and will be installed by way of horizontal directional boring. New water service laterals will need to be installed. Service laterals supplying water meters on the north side of Magee Street shall be directionally drilled. Laterals supplying water meters on the south side of Magee Street shall be installed via open cut. Corporation valves shall be installed using saddle taps. Single service laterals shall be supplied by a ¾” corporation valve and line. Laterals to supply more than one water meter shall be 1” in diameter then reduced by a 1”x3/4”x3/4” Wye. Interruptions in water service shall not exceed 2 hours. Prior to interrupting water service, the Contractor shall notify the affected property owner(s) 24 hours in advance of the work and coordinate the work in such a way that will least inconvenience the property owner(s). Five new fire hydrants will need to be installed on Magee Street along the new water main. Fire hydrants shall be located at intervals no more than 300 ft along Magee Street. When possible, the fire hydrants should be located at intersections. Each fire hydrant shall have an isolation valve isolating it from the new water main. Fire hydrant installation shall meet all codes and standards specified by the City of Covington’s Municipal Code, the NFPA, and the AWWA.
