Specifications include, but are not limited to: i. Issue Researcher’s badge and checks contents of what is being brought into the research room. 1. Views basket that is issued to the public and checks the contents of basket or anything else brought in, and make sure no restricted materials enter the Research room. 2. Verifies current government issued photo-ID with check-in program and exchanges it with a Researcher’s badge. Will hold ID until Researcher’s badge is returned. 3. When a researcher wants to exit the research room, the guard will stop and view the contents of basket to make sure no archives’ materials leave the research room and/or facility. ii. Monitor the Public Research Room activities through streaming video feeds and on-site at a designated post. iii. Enforce State Archives rules as designated by the Hawaiʻi Administrative Rules Title 3 Department of Accounting and General Services, Chapter 20 Rules governing the Public Use of the State Archives. For each day: 1. First time violation: inform the patron of the rule(s) they are violating, issuing them a verbal warning. 2. Second time violation: based on the behavior matrix – instruct the violator to comply or else they will be instructed to return all archives materials and their research time for the day will be terminated and inform the reference staff on desk. 3. Third time violation: based on behavior matrix – ask them to return all original documents, inform the reference staff on desk and the Deputy State Archivist 4. Fourth time: based on behavior matrix – ask the person(s) to leave and inform Deputy to process “Denial of Use” report, to which guard will document their involvement and request. iv. Fill out incidental/security reports for any disruptive patrons, criminal activities on and/or near Archives facility, damage to property and/or archives materials. To which Guards may need to call Sheriff’s Office or the Police for emergencies. v. Enforce policies set by the Archives Administrator regarding the facility and services provided by the Archives. vi. Must always stay within sight of staff stationed at the Reference or Circulation desks and assist when they are needed by staff.
