Specifications include, but are not limited to: Fairbanks Area Surface Transportation (FAST) Planning is seeking a qualified Consultant to develop an Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Deployment Plan for the Fairbanks and North Pole area. The purpose of this plan is to help make our community infrastructure-ready for EV integration for residents and visitors alike. The Urbanized Area of Fairbanks and North Pole has a population of 71,396 (2020 Census) and only one publicly accessible EV charging station. The community is also a terminus of the State’s only Alternative Fuel Corridor, which connects Anchorage (the largest Urbanized Area) to Fairbanks through the MatSu region (third, newest Urbanized Area) along the Parks Highway. According to Department of Motor Vehicle records there are currently only 30 fully electric EVs registered in our community, but local dealerships are reporting high demand for EV sales. Based on these conversations and market analysis, FAST Planning expects over 100 EVs on the road by the end of the year with continued and accelerated growth up to 1,000 to 4,000 EVs by 2030. This is happening, however, without supporting EV charging infrastructure in place and a thorough understanding of the implications of our cold climate challenges. This planning effort is therefore intended to seek stakeholder and public input on EV integration, explore growth scenarios to forecast and identify needs, give policy recommendations to local jurisdictions, and ultimately provide a framework to create a network of EV charging stations in Fairbanks and North Pole.
