Specifications include, but are not limited to:This scope consists of two separate projects, one within the Mattawamkeag River Wildlife Management Area(WMA)and one within the Bud Leavitt Wildlife Management Area (WMA): (A) mulching brush and small trees at the Page Farm Unit, (B) mulching brush and small trees at the Bull Hill Area. All brush mulching units can be found in Pages 12 through 16 (Location and Project Maps). A. Mulching Brush and Small Trees at the Page Farm Unit. Page Farm Unit at the Mattawamkeag River WMA is approximately a 20-acre unit where alder and other vegetation species are reaching maturity. Please refer to Pages 12-14 for aerial map and location. All stems must be severed 6” to 12” above the ground and mulched in place. Some small trees (typically aspen and balsam fir) are as large as 10” butt diameter. Equipment required for this project is an excavator, or tracked or wheeled carrier with a hydraulically- or PTO-driven forestry mulching head. Minimum carrier horsepower must be at least 100 HP and have a minimum hydraulic flow rate of at least 30 gallons per minute (GPM) to the mulching head if hydraulically driven. Work will focus on areas of vegetation within the American woodcock strips first. Then moving on to Grouse Block areas identified by Department personnel to mulch. Ground disturbance is to be minimized. B. Mulching Brush and Small Trees at the Bull Hill Area. Bull Hill Area at the Bud Leavitt WMA is 8.5 acre unit where alder and other vegetation species are reaching maturity. Please refer to Pages 15 and 16 for aerial map and location. All stems must be severed 6” to 12” above the ground and mulched in place. Some small trees (typically aspen and balsam fir) are as large as 10” butt diameter.
