Specifications include, but are not limited to: During the term of this Agreement, the Consultant shall perform design engineering services for Pima County (County) in connection with the Ajo Wash Bridge on Telera Street project. This scoping document shall be used to plan, conduct, and complete the Consultant’s work on the project. 1.0 BACKGROUND DATA 1.1 PURPOSE The existing timber bridge on Telera Street at Ajo Wash that was built in 1953 is documented as structurally deficient. The existing timber bridge is posted as having a Gross Weight Limit of 10,000 lbs. GVWR. The hydraulic conveyance of the existing bridge structure is inadequate. The hydraulic conveyance is limited by the 15” depth of the timber stringers which only provides about 2.5’ - 3’of flow depth and the width of flow is limited BY the span of the bridge at 20’. As a result, runoff from large storm events overtops Telera Street which causes flooding of adjacent properties in the vicinity of the existing bridge. A new structure is needed to alleviate flooding and reduce overtopping frequency and depth on Telera Street. A new structure would improve safety, alleviate flooding and eliminate load restrictions. Past bridge inspection reports have documented there were vehicles observed crossing the Ajo Wash Bridge that were over the posted gross vehicle weight limit of 10,000 LBS. This is a safety issue which is a top priority for PCDOT.
