Specifications include, but are not limited to: design a new Surf Ballroom Music Enrichment & Immersive Center (MEIC). The 2-story facility will be located directly West of the existing Surf Ballroom. The new building will be the hub and starting point for a comprehensive multi-building historical tour outlining the history of the SURF Ballroom and the district. The MEIC will include an experience theatre, exploratory & museum, gift shop, music lessons & studio wing, shared conference & meeting space, and rooftop patio & deck. The MEIC is currently under design and entering the Design Development phase. The City is actively interviewing additional consultants for Interpretive Planning & Exhibit Design services that could impact the layout and design schedule. In addition to the MEIC, a separate street scape enhancement project that surrounds the proposed site is under design and will have an overlapping construction schedule to the MEIC. Project coordination with the streetscape work will be a large component of the scheduling and harmony of the project. Current MEIC designs show an overall building square footage of 10,000 s.f. – 13,000 s.f.
