Specifications include, but are not limited to: Provides medical services (surgery) in support of the health care of animals and the administration of treatment or surgical procedures to animals. Prescribes medications, establishes treatment, and performs spay/neuter surgeries on animals. The City relies on judgment to plan and accomplish goals, as well as experience. Performs a variety of surgical spay/neuter tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to the head of the department. It is preferred that these procedures be conducted in the clinic of the selected Veterinarian. Respondents provides by schedule, at least twice a week, domestic dog and cat surgical sterilization in provided surgical suite or in the Veterinary Facility as agreed. Provides pre-surgery checks, and provides post-surgical follow-up either in person or through staff based contacts. Proposer understands that he/she will provide complete surgical care while the animal is in surgery, and will provide an assistant if needed. Arkansas Act 994 (2011), Senate Bill 550 requires the spay/neuter of adopted animals before the adopter takes custody of the animal. This means Animal Services must hold the animal until this procedure has been completed by the Veterinarian. This places the Animal Services Department/Shelter in a very tight situation, as an adopted animal means an empty kennel for new animal intake. Twice weekly clinics/services will be mandatory. The clinic shall provide recommended post-surgery care instructions to the adopter and maintains all necessary supplies for all needed care both during and post-surgery. It is the preference of Hot Springs Animal Services that these procedures be performed at the successful proposer's facility if cost feasible. Also provides 'Feral Cat" spay/neuter services as requested by the Department Head. This will coincide with a regular scheduled spay date. It can be expected that there will be 20-30 scheduled surgeries on any spay date. Plan to schedule your time accordingly to complete these surgeries in one day of work. Mid-week dates are preferable (Tuesday-Thursday).
