Specifications include, but are not limited to: The University, through its Office of General Counsel, and in cooperation with the Utah State Attorney General, is seeking proposals from law firms with extensive experience and a successful track record of advising on complex and simple litigation matters in the areas of breach of contract, commercial litigation, insurance matters, appeals, real property disputes, products liability, civil rights, bankruptcy, collections, and intellectual property. These areas are listed as examples but are not intended to exclude other related categories of litigation that may arise. The University anticipates that the areas of contractual disputes, and commercial litigation are the most likely areas in which legal disputes may arise, but the other listed areas of litigation are those where the University may also require outside expertise from time to time. A depth of experience in one or more areas or a breadth of experience in several areas may be used to establish a track record of success and the requisite experience. Note that much of the litigation for the University is managed by the Utah Attorney General’s office, which handles most employment law disputes, as well as most tort claims in which the University is named as a defendant. The Utah Attorney General’s office also may handle civil rights claims and contractual claims that are intertwined with employment law claims or torts claims.
