Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Contractor shall properly winterize the referenced commercial irrigation systems as directed by City personnel. The services provided are intended to supplement the City’s effort in maintaining the existing systems. The winterization work shall be performed approximately October 1st to the second week of November and shall be scheduled with City personnel. Weather conditions may accelerate the schedule. 1.02 WINTERIZATION: A. Work shall include but not be limited to the following in order to insure a complete system shut down: 1. Shut off all existing water devices feeding irrigation systems at the main shut off, paying special attention that the shut offs may bleed by; 2. Blow out all lines individually using appropriate size air compressor; 3. Utilize industry acceptable capacity range of 50-60 PSI and 185-250 CFM; 4. Insure proper displacement of all water in the lines and heads; 5. Method of line blow out used shall develop a fine mist spray before moving on to the next zone; 6. Insure all water is removed that subsequently may settle in any lines; 7. If valves may not operate by controller, they may need to be opened manually; 8. Contractor to verify all zones have been properly winterized 9. Contractor to assume there are no drawings or as-builts for irrigation systems; 10. City Plumber may pull back flows and open the drain downs where applicable; 11. Contractor shall warranty their work from freeze breaks until the next winterization. If repairs are needed due to freezing, repairs shall be done immediately as they are discovered B. Contractor shall take measures to preclude excessive friction and heat built-up, due in part to the rapid introduction of forced pressurized air into the irrigation system during blowout. C. Contractor shall assume the following phasing for irrigation system winterization: 1) Pools, 2) Splash Pads, 3) Parks (non-sports fields), 4) Sports Fields. D. The Parks Department shall coordinate access to all facilities and valve boxes with the selected contractor after award. E. Contractor shall assume that all systems have been maintained in good condition prior to winterization.
