Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Salt Lake Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is acquiring fuels management services to treat vegetation to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildland fires and improve wildlife habitat in the Parley’s Canyon project area. Work includes thinning mixed conifer, aspen, Douglas fir, Gambel Oak & Maple stands, and piling the slash for burning on approximately 310 acres. This task order requires the Contractor to furnish labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, operating supplies, and incidentals to perform the work in areas identified on the attached site maps. Bids should be submitted on a price per acre basis. The purpose of this project is to: - Construct shaded fuel breaks (much like a pre commercial thinning) to break up the continuity of unhealthy mixed conifer stands in the Parley’s Canyon Watershed to reduce fire intensity and spread potential. - Connect natural barriers and aspen groves into a fuel break network that provides protective buffers around communities and infrastructure; reduces the risk of catastrophic wildfires to crucial fish and wildlife habitat and populations, drinking water quality and quantity, and recreation opportunities. Ultimately, this will enhance and improve the sustainability of natural resources in the greater Parley’s Canyon area. - Improve safety for local private property users, forest visitors, and firefighters by compartmentalizing unwanted fires to smaller areas and providing fuel breaks that can be quickly converted to control lines during fire suppression operations.
