Specifications include, but are not limited to: Project 1: Approximately 2.5 long multi-use trail built to be designed (flagged) and built to International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) trail standards, connecting the Bethel Recreation Area and the White River Valley Schools, Bethel Campus. Item 1: Approximately 2.5 mile long, 3’ wide singletrack trail built to IMBA multi-use trail standards. Item 2: Approximately 10 - 12 rock armored/hardened wet area/intermittent stream crossings. Item 3: One safe crossing of existing water reservoir service road. Segments of Outer Loop that will be designed and constructed (refer to Bethel Woods VOREC Trail Map): Segment #1. Between A and B on the map. This bi-directional segment will be built on Town of Bethel Recreation Center lands, beginning at the edge of the existing parking lot, following the north property boundary toward the woodline to the west. The trail will then follow the woodline to the current trailhead where the trail will follow the existing built trail to the north to the area of the property line. The trail will then switchback up the slope to the west to the gravel water reservoir service road. The total length of this segment will be approximately ½ mile, primarily due to switchbacking. The trail can follow the existing portion of the Mid Loop Trail that is on town property. The trail will cross the existing seeded skid path multiple times as it switches back up the grade. There is a buried electrical power feed beneath the skid path which serves the Town of Bethel water reservoir further up the hill. Segment #2: Between B and C on the map. This bi-directional segment will be built on land owned by Dennis Wood, pursuant to a ten year trail use agreement, and will begin on the west side of the gravel water reservoir service road and continue in a westerly direction before switchbacking up the slope toward the north. This segment will end at the point where the slope initially levels out in the vicinity of the logging skid trail through the property. This segment will be approximately ⅓ of a mile long. Segment #3: Between C and D on the map. This bi-directional segment will also be built on Dennis Wood’s property and will continue in a northwesterly direction, intersecting directly, or via a short connection, with the existing Mid Loop Trail in the vicinity of Reroute #2 of the Mid Loop Trail. The trail will climb a short distance via switchbacks to the area of the existing skid trail, avoiding trail construction in the skid trail to reserve it for current and future use by the landowner. The Outer Loop Trail will then continue parallel to the existing skid, but in the hardwood glades to the east of the skid trail, ending where the trail turns back to the east and begins to descend the slope back toward the school forest. This segment will be approximately 3/4 mile in length. Segment #4: Between D and E on the map. This bi-directional segment will also be built on Dennis Wood’s property and will switchback down the slope for approximately 1/4 of a mile, ending where it meets the existing Mid Loop Trail. Segment #5: Between E and F on the map. This downhill-only directional segment will begin at the existing Mid Loop Trail and switchback downslope toward the northeast, passing onto the school forest portion of the Bethel Campus lands, before turning toward the southeast in the vicinity of the existing Mid Loop Trail. This segment will then continue along the mid slope above the outdoor classroom area of the school forest. This segment will end when the newly constructed trail joins with the existing School to Pool Trail just above the short, steep switchback area of the existing trail. This segment will be approximately ½ mile long and is to be built as a directional downhill flow trail with features including berms and doubles but no gaps Trail shall be built similar to the ‘Old Gents Trail’ that is located behind the Rochester USFS Ranger Station in Rochester, VT. Segment #6: Between F and A on the map. This bi-directional segment will follow the existing School to Pool Trail across school, private and town lands for approximately ⅛ mile to the area of the current trailhead. Work on this section will be limited to tread maintenance and repair and additional ditching on the portions on school and town lands, especially in the area of the buried power line/skid road where the draining side slope was damaged by utility excavation.
