Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.1 Introduction This project involves the replacement of Reedy Bridge (#44-14-9.87), which carries West Virginia (WV) Route 14 over Reedy Creek in Roane County, West Virginia. The bridge will be replaced as a new twolane structure at its current location with maintenance of traffic provided by utilizing staged construction. This report represents the geotechnical exploration data and related engineering analyses and recommendations for the proposed bridge replacement. See Appendix A for the plan and profile of the proposed bridge. 1.2 Proposed Construction The existing structure is a continuous three-span bridge with steel wide flange beams supported by reinforced concrete stub abutments and solid piers. The proposed construction consists of replacing the existing bridge on the existing alignment in stages with a single span bridge with a span length of 140 ft that carries two 10-ft lanes of traffic with a 5-ft shoulder on each side. The bridge is planned to be constructed between the approximate Stations from 316+19.09 and 317+73.01 using stub type semiintegral abutments with cast in place wingwalls. The abutments will be supported on a dual row of Hpiles driven to refusal on rock. It is our understanding that proposed wingwalls will be cantilevered from the abutments or otherwise pile supported. No other permanent retaining walls are required as part of this project. Maximum fill height is on the order of approximately 9 ft. The project also includes select pavement replacement.
