Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of La Vista (“City”) is seeking proposals for Executive Search and Recruitment Services for Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety. • Provide timely, high quality executive recruitment for the position of Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety. • Engage in a robust engagement process to evaluate the current needs and expectations for the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety from a variety of stakeholders, including: the City Administrator, Organizational Leadership Team, Police Department Personnel, Mayor & City Council, La Vista Residents, and the Civil Service Commission. • Review and provide recommendations for revisions to the job description for the position as appropriate. • Develop a candidate profile that outlines the specific areas of technical expertise, management experience, and leadership competencies required to be successful in the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety role. • Work with the City to develop an aggressive marketing and recruitment strategy aimed at producing the highest quality candidate pool. This strategy will include the identification and recruitment of diverse candidates who may be in the job market, as well as those who may not be actively searching for a new position. • Review and screen candidates with the goal of understanding candidates’ professional experience, leadership and management style, and motivation for pursuing the opportunity. • Recommend and coordinate processes to effectively evaluate skills and leadership abilities of candidates. • Perform an initial interview to ensure all candidates presented are well-qualified and actively interested in the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety position. At the conclusion of this interview, provide the City Administrator with information to determine next steps. • Assist the City Administrator in making determinations regarding the inclusion of administrative assessment, psychological testing, a public involvement/input component, community tour, and other testing mechanisms as determined by the City Administrator as part of the final interview round. • Check references and conduct extensive background checks on final candidate(s) and coordinate a comprehensive background investigation of finalist(s) by a licensed private investigator able to meet the requirements of the City of La Vista or by the law enforcement background investigator approved by the City Administrator.
