Specifications include, but are not limited to: Bid requirements for harvest of all fields: 1.) Bid by the ton adjusted for DRY MATTER to 35%. 2.) Bacterial silage inoculant “application only” should be included in the bid. 3.) Dry Matter specification – Harvest timeframe must occur for a Minimum of 32% and a Maximum of 38% Dry Matter. 4.) Bid must include price for all equipment, material, fuel, labor, chopping, trucking, bagging and silage bags. 5.) Silage bag lengths shall be 250 feet to 450 feet. 6.) Chopper must be equipped with kernel processor and a liquid inoculant applicator. 7.) Kernel processor on chopper must be able to effectively process corn kernels to our satisfaction. 8.) Each load of silage will be weighed across the truck scale located at the Dairy unit. 9.) The distance between the harvested fields and the storage location is less than one (1) mile - one way for all acres except for 76 acres which is located at Knox Lane which is approximately 4 miles one way. It is recommended that Knox Lane be field chopped on a Saturday and Sunday due to the reduced traffic, but is not a requirement. The approximate date of harvest will begin on or around August 1st, 2023, or when corn is ready to meet dry matter specification requirements and dependence on weather conditions. Additional Bid requirements for Corn Silage (Dairy): 1.) Approximately 2,500 tons of corn to be chopped and bagged for silage 2.) Harvested silage for the Dairy unit includes fields 7,9,10, partial 11 and Knox Lane consisting of approx. 153 acres. 3.) Inoculant will be supplied by the Dairy unit. 4.) Storage location will be at the Dairy. Additional Bid requirements for Beef Cattle Research Center Silage (BCRC): 1.) Approximately 2,500 tons of corn to be chopped and bagged for silage. 2.) Silage for the BCRC unit includes fields 2,3,4,5,6 and partial 11 consisting of approx. 155.5 acres. Field 6, or fifteen acres was double cropped after Rye grass harvest in April and the expected yield will be less than the other fields. 3.) Equipment must be cleaned between harvesting of corn varieties or separate equipment must be used for beef research corn. 4.) There are two different varieties of corn in the 6 fields for the BCRC, but each field has only one variety. Fields 2 & 3 are of the same variety and do not need to be bagged separately. We will identify field number as placed into the bag as to keep the two varieties separated within a bag. 5.) No inoculant application required. 6.) Storage location will be at the Beef Cattle Research Center.
