Specifications include, but are not limited to: Unit Delineation: ▪ Unit boundaries are clearly marked by pink colored flagging and all work will occur within these identified borders. (Any unit boundaries depicted on attached maps are subject to change prior to commencing work. Mapped boundaries and reported acreage are a current best-estimate. Unit layout and boundary finalization will occur prior to pre-bid site visit – May 2023) ▪ Sensitive areas or individual leave trees identified by the landowner will be marked in blue colored flagging. Vegetation Removal: 1. Thinning specifications: Crowns of conifer trees less than 10 inches at 4.5 feet (dbh) will be spaced ten feet (10’) a variance can be made in spacing but must be approved in advance by the COR or delegated representative. Remove all poor quality (i.e., crooked, forked tops, and trees with less than one third of their height in live crown) trees, and those infected with Dwarf Mistletoe and/or Western Gall Rust or those trees that have been attacked by bark beetles. Leave tree preference will be Western larch/ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce, and grand fir. Trees 10 inches or larger at (dbh) will be retained unless otherwise marked with double orange flagging to indicate removal. 2. Trees will be felled using manual and/or mechanical means and stumps will be flush cut with the ground where practical and otherwise no more than four inches (4”) in height. 3. Masticate all slash resulting from the thinning, including any existing dead/down woody debris less than or equal to 10” diameter. 4. All shrubs within the drip line of remaining trees will be masticated. Masticate all clumps of brush that are less than 50% alive. 5. Quaking aspen trees will be cut or limbed if dead, damaged, or impeding removal of other species. Ladder Fuels: All residual trees will have the lower limbs removed using a hand operated saw, up to 10 feet on the bole or no more than 1/3 of the total height, whichever is less. Slash Disposal: All material produced through these activities will be masticated or chipped and spread across the project area to a depth not to exceed 4 inches. Residual debris shall not accumulate against leave trees.
