Specifications include, but are not limited to: Aquatic acoustic telemetry for fish requirements for Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. The Division has monitored the movement of several fish species using VEMCO equipment since 2009. Data gathered from monitoring fish movement are used in stock assessments to determine species presence and habitat usage, which helps determine creel limits and size limits. Additionally, species specific data is essential to the determination of our juvenile abundance index for Atlantic Sturgeon which estimates their abundance in the Delaware River & Bay. Acoustic telemetry data has been used to protect spawning fish species such as the endangered Atlantic Sturgeon during sensitive times of the year by advising time of year restrictions for in-water work conducted by businesses and property owners in our streams and rivers. Data collected on Striped Bass is used to better identify migration patterns of spawning adults, estimates of river residents compared to migrating fish, and identify mixed stock occurrences along the Atlantic coast.
